Yosemite National Park is best known for its waterfalls, but within its nearly 1,200 square miles, deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and more. The Sierra Nevada stretches 400 miles. It is bounded on the west by California's Central Valley, and on the east by the Great Basin. Mt. Whitney is the highest peak in the lower 48 states. The peak lies within the John Muir Wilderness and the Sequoia National Park Wilderness.
